About The University

The University of The People is a private American non-profit, distance education university established on January 2009 by Shai Reshef. An entrepreneur  who created  a free virtual University, the first non-profit, tuition free, accredited, online, American university. And since then over two hundred students have gotten a degree from this distance learning Institution. Yes, its a legitimate American University and the degrees are valid.

The University of the People was accredited in 2014 by Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) and approved by BPPE. Which is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

The University of the People is the first tuition-free institution with online classes and virtual textbooks offering both undergraduate and graduate degrees for about 15,000 students from over 200 countries of the world. Facts has it that about 87% of UoPeople graduates are employed and some work in Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, IBM World Bank, and the United Nations.

The University is known to offer students the learning opportunities to acquire their American degree and boost their prospective careers. The University offers two-year  associate and four-year bachelors degree programs in business administration,  health science, and  computer science as well as an MBA program and a Master of Education (M. Ed).

Target Group: the program offered by the school is not restricted to only American students. It rather extends to all students from allover the world.

Over the years the university has partnered and gone into collaboration with different recognized universities such as the New York University, Yale ISP Law School for research, the University of Nairobi, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of California Berkeley, the University of Auckland, Sapienza University of Rome, and many more to admit students.

The UoPeople’s corporate partner includes Microsoft and HP. Its President Council, includes presidents, chancellors, and vice chancellors from other universities such as Columbia University, the George Washington University, Oxford, New York University, the Rockefeller University, Vassar University, UC Berkeley, and others.

The University is also in affiliation different international organizations such as  the United Nation (UN), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and Ashoka

Scholarship Eligibility

Requirements for undergraduates

  • Applicants must be 16years or older.
  • Applicants must be proficient in English language but in a situation where applicants is unable to provide a poof of English proficiency, they will need to successfully complete a UoPeople English course before going further to UoPeople Foundations.
  • Applicants must be capable of demonstrating high school completion
  • The University of People accepts students who have graduated from high school, such students is expected to  submit proof of  high school completion through the submission of an official diploma(or transcript showing graduation) sent directly to UoPeople either mailed or submitted online.
  • Where applicants are non-native English speakers, or did not complete their high school education in an institution where the primary language of instruction is English such as a refugee or asylum seeker. The applicant can submit a photocopy of the original diploma(transcript showings graduation) certified by a notary public sent directly to UoPeople( either by mail or submitted online)  or the results from an Ability to Benefit test approved by the US Department of Education.
  • Applicants who posses and has passed all eligibility criteria are required to submit a payment of a $60 non-refundable Application Processing Fee.
  • Applicants must complete an online application to formally apply for admissions considerations in the UoPeople’s. the applications are to be uploaded directly ta the UoPeople Self Service Portal for easy and faster processing and can be accessed once you have completed your application to the university and paid your application fee.
  • For applicants who wish to send their documents to the Office of Admissions in Pasadena, California, must send it to the school’s official address at; University of the People ( Office of Admissions), 225 S.Lake Ave. Suite 300. Pasadena, CA 91101.
  • Documents that are not written in the English language must be submitted along with an official notarized translation. The original, as well as the English version, must be sent to the UoPeople admission office.
  • Applicants should ensure that they make multiple copies of submitted documents for their personal use as any submitted documents to the university automatically becomes the property of the university, and will not be returned.

Note

  • You do not need to submit any standardized test scores neither do you needed to write any entrance exam for admittance. The institution does not require such.
  • Its important to also note that once students have passed the UoPeople Foundations Courses and sent their proof of high school completion Document, they may continue as degree seeking students at UoPeople in their desired undergraduate degree program.
  • The UoPeople Foundations Courses is one of the credit requirements for the associates and bachelors degree programs

Requirements for Master’s Degree in Business Administration

  • Applicants must have English proficiency in line with the DEAC guidelines for graduate studies.
  • For non-native speakers speakers who are unable to demonstrate English proficiency, such applicant will be required to complete English Composition 1 course in their first term, before continuing in the foundation courses,
  • Applicants must have a minimum of two years work experience
  • Applicants would provide one reference from an employer/lecturer etc
  • Applicants must provide an official bachelors transcript
  • Applicants who wish to apply for our MBA must complete an online application including payment of a non-refundable Application Processing Fee.
  • Once the online application is complete, applicants will be considered for admission to the UoPeople Foundations Courses and when completed will be admitted into a graduate program.
  • Successful students who has passed the foundation courses will be required to send proof of Bachelor’s degree completion document, they may also continue as a  Degree-seeking students at the UoPeople in their MBA degree program.
  • The UoPeople MBA Foundations Courses counts as one of the major credit criteria for the MBA degree. Proof of undegraduate degree completion may be satisfied during the first term at UoPeople through the submission of an official diploma( or transcript showing graduation) sent directly to UoPeople either mailed, submitted or a scanned copy sent electronially)
  • Or a photocopy of the original diploma(transcript showing graduation) certified by a notary  sent directly to UoPeople( either by mail or submitted online)  or the results from an Ability to Benefit test approved by the US Department of Education.
  • Applicants are expected to submit a resume showing at least two years work experience, a letter of recommendation from an individual who can give a vivid and clear information about their education background/work experience.
  • The letter should be formally written and addressed to the UoPeolpe Office of Admissions. The letter should be submitted with the first and last name of the recommender, the email address , and phone number including the country code.

The university considers a transfer of credits earned at accredited universities within and outside of the US. It also considers credits earned from College Board AP Tests or evaluated by ACE(including CLEP).s

It may award the transfer of up to 50% of the required program credits. With the universities new transfer credit acceptance policy, you can study 50% of this degree while you are still in high school.

University of the People has a five-ten week terms in its academic year and tests are taken in the last week.  A personal Program Advisor is assigned to each student to assist them with any issues or questions that arises.

Scholarship Benefits:

As a tuition free institution, students are not required to pay for their annual enrollment, course material, virtual textbooks or educational instruction. But Students are asked to pay an administrative fee at the end of each course ($100 for undergraduate and $200 for graduate studies) this fee is meant to cover their processing fees for application and final exams assessment. Also students are asked to pay a one-time, non refundable application fee of $60. this suffices that an associate degree can be completed in two years for $2060, a bachelor degree can be completed in four years for $4060, and an MBA can be completed in fifteen months for $2460.

For students who cannot afford the assessment fees, the university in collaboration with outstanding world organizations offers a variety of scholarships and grants to assists students, and such students can apply if eligible.
